History


Since their founding in 1991, the Tulsa Children's Chorus and the Tulsa Youth Chorale have made their presence known in Tulsa and surrounding communities.   Below is a brief history of some of their most important happenings.


2008 We welcomed Katie Radaker, a graduate of John Brown University as TCC's first-ever intern in September, 2008.

Marjoleine Gravley, retired Middle and High School Choral Director--Bartlesville Public Schools, was named as the new Artistic Director and Concert Chorus Director in May, 2008.

Ginny LeDoux retired as Artistic Director and Concert Chorus Director, conducting her final concert on Friday, April 18, 2008. She is the founding Artistic Director and Concert Chorus Director and had served for seventeen years. All three choruses surprised Mrs. LeDoux with a tribute by singing Cherokee Blessing. This traditional Cherokee blessing was composed in honor of Mrs. LeDoux and the Tulsa Children's Chorus by composer and musician, Eliot Glaser.

Featured in Tulsa Oratorio Chorus' production of King David by Arthur Honegger, March 8, 2008.

2007 Performed in the Oklahoma Time Capsule Celebration, November 10 2007. Added articles including a group photo and CDs to the time capsule, which will be opened in fifty years.
2006 Featured in Tulsa Ballet's Carmina Burana, along with Tulsa Oratorio Chorus, October 10-12; 2006, and in the Statehood Day Interfaith Prayer Breakfast, November 16.   Performed in The Great State of Oklahoma Extravaganza Light Show, Fireworks and Centennial Gala, November 18; and opened for Tony Bennett's Birthday Salute to Oklahoma Concert November 19.

To celebrate our 15th Anniversary Concert, April 21, 2006, with the premiere of commissioned work by composer Z. Randall Stroope at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center - John Williams Theatre

2005 Members of Concert Chorus attended the Crescent City Choral Festival in New Orleans.
  Sponsored Choral Festival 2005 at Kendall-Whittier Elementary School in Tulsa, June 27th -30th for 4th through 12th grade singers in Tulsa area, in cooperation with the Tulsa Public Schools & Barthelmes Conservatory of Music.
  Presented Musica de Mayo, a fundraiser benefiting Festival 2005, at Harwelden, with choral members providing entertainment.
  Opened Tulsa Children's Chorus Office at Harwelden, home of the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa.
2004 Members of Concert Chorus attended the Omaha Children's Festival
Participated in 2nd Holiday Spectacular with Tulsa Opera, Tulsa Oratorio Chorus.
2003 Participated in Holiday Spectacular with Tulsa Opera, Tulsa Oratorio Chorus.
  Sponsored Choral Festival 2003 at Kendall-Whittier Elementary School in Tulsa, for 4th through 6th grade singers in Tulsa area, in cooperation with the Tulsa Public Schools & Barthelmes Conservatory of Music.
2002 In Memoriam: America Remembers; Participation with Tulsa Opera, Tulsa Philharmonic and other groups in September 11 Memorial Concert
Sponsored Choral Festival 2002 at Kendall-Whittier Elementary School in Tulsa, for 4th through 6th grade singers in Tulsa area, in cooperation with the Tulsa Public Schools and Barthelmes Conservatory of Music
Second appearance of Honor Chorus at OK Mozart Performance, Bartlesville, OK
2001 Honor Chorus sang in Tulsa Ballet performance of The Nutcracker
Spring enrollment reached 90 singers in 3 choruses from more than 40 schools (public, private, and home schools)
Celebrated 10th anniversary with premiere of commissioned work by Oklahoma composer Nancy Lippens at May 3rd concert at Holy Family Cathedral
Sponsored Choral Festival 2001 at Kendall-Whittier Elementary School in Tulsa, June 25-29 for 4th through 6th grade singers in Tulsa area, in cooperation with the Tulsa Public Schools
Members of Concert Chorus attended Des Moines International Children's Choral Festival in July
Completed two year recording project in December with release of 10th anniversary CD projected for early 2002
2000 Attended Indianapolis Children's Choral Festival and served as demonstration chorus for the Creating Artistry Workshop
1999 Members of Concert Chorus attended the Des Moines International Children's Choral Festival in Des Moines, Iowa
1998 Selected as Honor Chorus for Oklahoma Music Teachers Association Convention in Tulsa
1996 Became an independent organization, obtained 501(c)3 status and formed a Board of Directors which oversees the financial and operational business of the chorus
1994 Began a two-year residency program with Tulsa Junior College
Added a second treble chorus
1991 First offered as a class of the Community Arts School, which was a partnership between the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa and the Tulsa Public Schools. There were 12 singers.
